Morgan Barnes' top 10 games of 2020

Hi, I'm Toe Thumbs Morgan Barnes, the AAA martyr. I host the Chompcast and started writing reviews on the website this year! 2020 was a special year for videogames. We saw The Last of Us 2 shatter the game awards record with seven wins. We saw The Last of Us 2 become the most awarded game of all time, surpassing the Witcher 3. We saw our audience vote The Last of Us 2 GOTY in our biggest user vote turnout ever. We saw the last of us garner the highest Metacritic of the year. We witnessed history, but most importantly, we experienced something that only comes along once in a generation or so. Oh yeah, I guess some other games came out too. Here are my top ten games of 2020.

Shea Layton's top 10 games of 2020

2020. What a hell of a year. It was easily the longest and shortest year of my life. It was a year full of stress, heartbreak, anger, paranoia, and fear. Throughout all of the suffering and uncertainty, there was one bright spot: video games. And with all things considered, 2020 was a pretty damn good year for gaming.

That brings us to my list of top ten games for 2020. It was a difficult list in that it was hard to figure out where to place certain games due to developer narrative or which I truly felt was deserving of the spot thrust upon it. Without further ado, enjoy.

Review: Hitman 3

Review: Hitman 3

The final installment in IO’s World of Assassination trilogy is here, and it is the methodical, hilarious, and frankly bizarre missions of Agent 47 at their absolute best. 2016’s Hitman set a standard for how fun and immersive the gameplay of Hitman could be. Hitman 2 iterated on that and established Agent 47’s series as more of a platform by upgrading and keeping around old levels for those who played the original. Hitman 3 perfects this idea while daring to take risks. These risks result in some of the most exciting and experimental levels in the series’ history.

Review: Cyber Shadow

Review: Cyber Shadow

Shovel Knight is a masterpiece; An homage to Megaman and 2-D platformers of the past that made Yacht Club Games a recognizable name in the industry. Because of this success and my love of Shovel Knight, I knew it would be right up my alley when Cyber Shadow was announced. Yacht Club may not have developed it, but they saw enough promise in what developer Arane Hunziker was doing over at Mechanical Head Games to slap their publishing label on it, and I can confidently say they picked a winner.

Review: Astro's Playroom

Review: Astro's Playroom

Astro Bot is a strange character. Many are still unfamiliar with the little guy, but for myself and others who fell in love with Astro’s last title, Rescue Mission for PSVR, he’s the adorable mascot Playstation needs. Astro’s Playroom isn’t quite as large scale as Rescue Mission, but it makes for a delightful pack-in game and does a fantastic job of showcasing all the tech in the PS5’s Dualsense controller.
