The world was graced with Cuphead, one of the most impressive and innovative indie games in recent memory. Difficult bosses and run-and-gun gameplay are interlaced with stunning visuals that harken back to the 1930s Steamboat Willy animation style. Studio MDHR’s masterpiece has prompted the creation of a TV show and adorable merch. Through all of the light, the gaming community has been patiently waiting for the DLC that Studio MDHR has been working on for years. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course not only adds more content to a wonderful game, but it adds new ways of playing, making it feel fresh.
Preview: Power Chord
Thanks to our friends at Big Blue Bubble, I had the pleasure of getting a closer look at the upcoming Metal themed deck builder Power Chord. The core is the same as the last time I played, but I got a look at a brand new character and a deeper glimpse at this world's lore, which really brings Brutal Legend to mind.
Preview: Phantom Brigade
Phantom Brigade is a strategy mech game currently in early access on Epic with a familiar look and some gripping and unique concepts. I love mechs, and I love strategy games, so lucky for me, the two tend to come together a lot. I’m typically hesitant to get too invested in early access titles, but Phantom Brigade has a lot to offer even in its current stage.
Preview: My Time at Sandrock
If you’re big into farming/crafting sim games like me, you might remember a little game called My Time at Portia from a few years ago. Portia was a bit rough around the edges but was most memorable for taking a tried and true formula and setting it in a unique, almost studio Ghibli-inspired world. It’s been a while since Portia was released, and developer Pathea games are finally ready to launch the DLC turned full-fledged sequel My Time at Sandrock in early access.
Ray's JRPG Shame Pile
I have spent a lot of time playing JRPGs in my game-playing years. I have played a lot of the big hits, gotten many playthroughs under my belt for some all-time classic games. I have also sought out niche titles, and evangelized them to those around me. However, there are gaps in my experience, and I wish to share those gaps with you dear readers, along with my everlasting and perpetual shame. This is a list of 20 JRPGs that I have never rolled ending credits on, which maybe I should have done instead of spending a few thousand hours in World of Warcraft. Hindsight as always, is 20/20 and I cannot turn back time. Instead, I can use this list as a guidepost, and maybe start ticking down some of these entries over the rest of 2022 and beyond. If any of these are in your piles of shame as well, feel free to join me, tell me how the list is going on Twitter. Without any further ado:
